About International Women’s day

International Women’s Day serves as a reminder of the remarkable achievements of women across diverse fields worldwide. From science and technology to politics and the arts, women continue to break barriers despite facing numerous challenges such as discrimination and limited representation. NeurotechEU, an alliance at the forefront of innovation in neurotechnology, embraced the spirit of this day by hosting an online conference to celebrate the Women of NeurotechEU.

Empowering Women in STEM

The event, organized by NeurotechEU Student Council and moderated by Elif Can (BOUN) and Vivek Sharma (RU), commenced with a warm introduction by Elif, elucidating the significance of NeurotechEU alliance and the pivotal role of the Student Council. Emphasizing the International Women’s Day as a potential driver for combating biases and inequalities, she set the tone for an enriching discourse.

Inspiring Lectures

Despite the virtual setting, the conference sparkled with luminous insights and inspiration. Prof. Dr. Anca Dana Buzoianu, Rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF) Cluj-Napoca, set the stage with a motivating message, urging women to persist in their scientific pursuits. Following her, five women dedicated to science took over to explain their experiences and challenges during their professional careers, including Dr. Pinar S. Özbay, Bogazici University; Prof. Dr. Cristiana Cruceanu, Karolinska Institute; Dr. Cornelia McCormick, Universität Bonn; Prof. Dr. Anahita Basirat, Université de Lille; and Dr. Daniela Schulz, Bogazici University.

Panel Discussions

The conference delved into pertinent issues through engaging panel discussions, shedding light on topics like the impostor syndrome, challenges of short-term contracts for women, and the underrepresentation of women in workplaces.

Interactive Dialogue

Participants gathered for a stimulating discussion that explored topics ranging from family planning to breaking the glass ceiling. This was intended to encourage the exchange of views and collective empowerment to advance gender equality through dialogue.
