Reykjavik University establishes new Department of Neuroscience and Health Technology

As one of the nine universities that form NeurotechEU, HR has been actively involved in developing new opportunities for education, research and collaboration in the area of neurotechnology. The new department will serve as the academic home of collaborative degrees within the alliance and serve as a platform for the university’s continued development in neuroscience, neurotechnology and health technology. 

With a strong interdisciplinary focus, the department will bring together expertise from neuroscience, psychology, computer science, engineering and health technology. It will support interdisciplinary teaching and research, the development of shared use of advanced laboratories and computational infrastructure, as well as new international study programmes and collaborations.

Dr. Kamilla Rún Jóhannsdóttir, who serves on the NeurotechEU Board of Governors, has been appointed Chair of the new department at HR. She sees its establishment as an important step in strengthening HR’s contribution to NeurotechEU and creating a sustainable foundation for interdisciplinary collaboration in neurotechnology.

“The establishment of the department marks an exciting milestone for HR and builds on the extensive development work and international collaboration that has taken place through the University’s participation in NeurotechEU.

The department opens up new opportunities for interdisciplinary teaching, research, and innovation at the intersection of neuroscience, health sciences, and technology,” said Jóhannsdóttir.
