NeurotechEU includes the following universities:

The composition of the alliance has changed compared to its original composition of eight universities from six EU countries (NL, ES, SE, DE, RO, HU), one recently departed state (UK) and one candidate country (TR). In numbers, NeurotechEU brings together 180,000 students and 90,000 staff from all four geographical regions of Europe. Starting from Phase 2 of NeurotechEU, the University of Debrecen (HU) is not a full partner in the NeurotechEU alliance, but remains an associate partner.

European Universities Initiative

In 2017, European Union leaders outlined a vision for education and culture. In late 2017, the European Council called on EU Member States, the Council, and the Commission to take forward a number of initiatives, including ‘European Universities’.

The European Universities Initiative facilitates the exchange of education, research, and employment. This means that students can take lessons at all the institutions involved, not constrained by institutional capabilities and borders. They can thus gain international experience and benefit from the specific expertise of the various universities. For scientists, it will lead to the improvement of the education they provide and to smoother cooperation in research.

In this way, the initiative trains new researchers and engineers at the highest possible level, with a background and network in several institutes. This improves Europe’s position in brain research and engineering and provides well-educated people to tackle future societal problems.

NeurotechEU envisions Neurotechnology

The economic and health burden of neurological disease is a global public health challenge. Neurological disorders are the leading cause of Disability Adjusted Life Years and the second leading cause of death. Beyond the health domain, there is an increasing need observed for new brain-based technologies in control, computer architecture and microprocessor domains.

As providing strategic bridges between various disciplines, including neuroscience, medicine, engineering, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, robotics, social sciences, and the humanities arranged along eight different dimensions. NeurotechEU aims to be the backbone of this new vision by bringing together several leading universities across Europe to create a unique educational environment where the new generation of Europeans who are able to cooperate and work within different European and global cultures, in different languages, and across borders, sectors and academic disciplines, are brought together.
