French University Presidents Call for Sustained Support of European Alliances
In May 2026, 56 presidents and directors of French higher education institutions co-signed an open letter addressed to the Minister of Higher Education and Research, calling for the renewal and strengthening of national funding for members of European University Alliances.
The letter highlights the strategic role these alliances play in internationalising academic programmes, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and advancing the transformation of European higher education — contributions that go well beyond the scope of individual projects.
Régis Bordet, President of the University of Lille and NeurotechEU partner institution, is among the signatories. The letter calls on the Ministry to confirm a significant financial commitment for the next funding phase, ensuring that French universities can continue to fulfil their European commitments and maintain the momentum of institutional transformation already underway.
