NeurotechEU Dedicated Board of Rectors Summit
On the 24th of March, NeurotechEU held a Dedicated Rectors Summit to discuss the latest developments in the initiative. Rectors and representatives from the consortium attended the online event.
Agenda of the summit
The meeting began by explaining the EC’s view on the European Universities Initiative. The European Universities initiative aims to enhance the quality, performance, attractiveness, and international competitiveness of higher education institutions (HEIs) in Europe while promoting common European values and a stronger European identity. This initiative achieves its goals by fostering innovative and diverse models of long-term institutional cooperation between HEIs across Europe. Regarding the EUI, the EC emphasised three points of view: the need for strong leadership from the rectors, the emphasis on mobility and bringing education, research and innovation together.
Following this, the Rectors and representatives discussed the finalisation of phase 1 of NeurotechEU, which will be in October 2023. The first phase focused on building the foundation for the initiative, including developing a shared vision and mission, establishing a governance structure, and launching pilot programs.
The transition into phase 2 of NeurotechEU was also discussed at the meeting. NeurotechEU applied for the 2023 Erasmus+ European Universities call on “Intensification of prior deep institutional transnational cooperation”. The results of the call are expected in the summer of 2023. Phase 2 will focus on expanding the initiative and strengthening its impact. NeurotechEU plans to build on the successes of phase 1 by launching new programs and initiatives, developing partnerships with other European universities, and increasing student and staff mobility.
The next Board of Rectors meeting will occur in Stockholm, Sweden. The event will bring together the leaders of the partner universities to further discuss the initiative's progress and plan for the future. The Board of Rectors meeting is set to take place on May 31 and June 1. It promises to be an essential moment in the initiative's development as it prepares the transition from phase 1 to phase 2 of NeurotechEU.
With the support of the European Commission and the dedication of its partner universities, NeurotechEU is poised to impact the future of education in Europe significantly.
