Muriel Gisa Heitsch: NeurotechEU Student Council Representative and Award-Winning KI Student

Karolinska Institutet (KI) has distinguished itself in the 2024 Undergraduate Awards, a prestigious global competition celebrating academic excellence. KI received recognition as a leading institution, highlighting the university's commitment to research and innovation.

Muriel Gisa Heitsch, a biomedical student and recent representative on the student council for NeurotechEU, earned the top honor in the Medical Sciences category, securing an international win. In addition to Muriel’s success, seven more KI students were acknowledged and awarded, with several receiving "Highly Commended" honors. This underscores KI’s exceptional academic environment, where students are empowered to reach their highest potential.

It still feels rather unbelievable, but I am very honoured and excited to present my research in Dublin at the Global Undergraduatee Summit! I am enthusiastic about the project and happy to be able to share it with others! Muriel Gisa Heitsch

These achievements reflect KI’s dedication to supporting high-achieving students and fostering global academic collaborations through networks like NeurotechEU, where Muriel recently played an important role as a student leader. Due to new commitments, she has stepped down, passing on her responsibilities. Muriel’s accomplishments, alongside KI’s institutional recognition and the achievements of her peers, demonstrate KI’s impact on the global academic stage and its strong support for student-led innovation and leadership.

Awardees are invited to the GUA Global Summit 2024 in Dublin from November 10–13. This four-day event will showcase the impact of undergraduate research, providing award-winning students a platform to present their work, network, and explore diverse fields through workshops, panels, and keynote discussions on global challenges.
