Discover the Wonders of the Brain at the Brain Museum in Nijmegen

Opening Brain Museum

The Brain Museum, an initiative of the Donders Citylab and partially made possible by NeurotechEU funding, has officially opened its doors in Nijmegen's historic Latin School. The grand opening on Friday, 29 November 2024, was celebrated by Mayor Hubert Bruls and Radboud University Executive Board Chair Daniel Wigboldus.

This unique museum offers visitors of all ages the chance to dive into the fascinating world of the brain, cognition, and behaviour. Featuring interactive exhibits, brain games, and opportunities to participate in scientific research, the Brain Museum is a hub for learning and discovery.

A Hands-On Experience

From testing your memory to learning about synaesthesia and optical illusions, the Brain Museum provides plenty of opportunities to engage your mind. Visitors can also explore the diversity of animal brains, match different brains to their species, and marvel at cutting-edge techniques for visualising the brain.

Children are not left out—activities designed especially for younger visitors include neuron puzzles, cuddly brain-themed toys, and auditory experiences that mimic the sounds of a baby’s world in the womb.

Workshop by NeurotechEU

The museum opened to the public on Saturday, 30 November, and has already attracted enthusiastic visitors. During the opening, 50 visitors joined the workshops ‘Close Encounters with Inner Aliens’ which was made possible by NeurotechEU. During a guided medidation, people thought about their inner aliens before typing what they saw into chatgpt combined with a visual programme. This resulted in very nice visualisations of different inner aliens.

A notable feature is the opportunity for visitors to participate in live scientific experiments, enabling them to contribute directly to research into brain and behaviour while learning more about themselves. Make sure to check the museum when you are visiting Nijmegen!
