Building bridges between Universities and Students : a journey from Bonn to Stockholm.
On April 3rd, the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden hosted 36 students from the Student Council Molecular Biomedicine at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University of Bonn, the visit combined scientific discovery, networking and cultural exchange, showcasing the unique benefits offered by NeurotechEU.
Supporting academic exchange and community building within the European scientific sector is an important objective of NeurotechEU. This one-day visit was a valuable opportunity for students to explore Karolinska Institutet and its infrastructure.
The day began with an inspiring lecture on Imaging and Cognitive Neuroscience delivered by Dr. Konstantina Kilteni. Following the lecture, students were guided through Karolinkska Institutet one of Europe’s leading medical universities, where they gained firsthand insight into the swedish university’s cutting-edge research environment. A visit of various laboratories of the Biomedicum enabled students to meet researchers and learn about ongoing studies in neuroimaging with Konstantina Kilteni, biochemistry with Elias Arnér, and immunology with Heela Sarlus. Following this visit, students met NeurotechEU academic coordinator, Dr. Ola Hermansson who presented an in-depth overview of neuroscience research and internship opportunities available at Karolinska Institutet.
The afternoon’s topics were punctuated by questions about the future and how neurotechnology can be used to improve quality of life for all. At the Berzelius väg 3, Jakob Zetterberg showcased virtual reality tools used by the Student Wellbeing Center to help train against speech anxiety.
This rich day of discoveries was rounded off by a cultural visit to Stockholm's historic Gamla Stan district, led by representatives of NeurotechEU students and members of the Synapses group.
